Email as a design context should facilitate an extension of a web site’s branding in the same way that a web site can extend a print brand. Subscribers can then make the connection in their minds between the email and the company sending it, which in turn can reduce spam complaints.

An email message has to compete with for attention

The core message has to be viewable quickly with the most valuable information prominant - not hidden away. A quick glance at the top of the email creative and the reader should know immediately if it’s worth reading. CTA's need to be highly visible, motivational and prominant.
